Discovering the Magni cence of China's Central Axis北京中軸線(xiàn)
Introduction (Speaker 1 - 1 minute) :
Hello everyone! Have you ever heard of the term \"Central
Axis\"? It's like a special line that runs through the heart of
Beijing, China. Imagine a straight path that starts from the
south and goes all the way to the north, passing through the
most important places in the city. This isn't just any line; it's a
symbol of China's rich history and culture. Today, we're going
to explore this amazing Central Axis together. Are you ready to
take this journey? Let's go!
Part 1: The Southern Beginning (Speaker 2 - 1 minute) :
Our adventure starts at the southern end of the Central Axis, at Tiananmen Square. This huge square is like a giant
playground for history. It's where important events and
celebrations happen. Can you imagine standing there,
surrounded by tall buildings and ags ying high? Just north
of Tiananmen Square, we nd the Forbidden City. This
ancient palace was once home to the emperors of China. Walking through its gates feels like stepping into a magical
world from a long time ago.
Part 2: The Heart of the City (Speaker 3 - 1 minute) :
Moving further north, we come to the heart of the Central
Axis--the Temple of Heaven. This beautiful place was built for
the emperors to pray for good harvests and peace. It's full of
amazing architecture and peaceful gardens. Imagine walking
through the gates and feeling the calmness all around you. Not
far from here is the Imperial Palace, also known as the
Forbidden City continued. Inside, there are thousands of
rooms, each with its own story. It's like a giant puzzle waiting
to be solved!
Part 3: The Northern End (Speaker 4 - 1 minute) :
Finally, we reach the northern end of the Central Axis, where
the Bell Tower and Drum Tower stand tall. These towers were
used to tell the time in ancient times. Can you imagine hearing
the big bells and drums echoing through the city every day?
Just beyond them, we nd Beihai Park, a beautiful garden
with a big lake. It's a perfect place to relax and enjoy nature. The Central Axis doesn't just end here; it's a part of a much
larger story that stretches across Beijing and China's history.
Conclusion (Speaker 1 again - 1 minute wrap-up) :
So, dear friends, we've traveled from the south to the north
of Beijing, exploring the magni cent places along China's
Central Axis. From Tiananmen Square to the Forbidden City,
the Temple of Heaven, and the Bell and Drum Towers, each
place has its own unique story. This Central Axis is not just a
line on a map; it's a living, breathing part of China's rich
heritage. It reminds us of our past and inspires us for the
future. Let's cherish and learn from these wonderful places, so
we can share their stories with others. Thank you for joining
me on this amazing journey!

(Part 1)
Willows in February get life
Grasses are to become green in March
When April falls our best time will come
Then all rivers become blue
Spring days are full of fun and joy
Rain in pond will wake up lotuses
Flowers are here and there; swallows all whisper
We are in the prime youth age
I go up to hill to meet you
I do have a lot to say to you
All should’ve been quite same today
For I meet you it is a great day
Children now y kites on the hill
People run with the boat down the hill
Fallen owers are for hairpin in wind
Right on the hill we stay long
I go up to hill to meet you
I do have a lot to say to you
All should’ve been quite same today
For I meet you it is a great day
(Part 2)

Role Model of the Times—Zhang Guimei
我心目中的英雄
(Part 1)
Hey guys, today’s story is about a teacher who changed the
fate of a generation. Her name is Zhang Guimei.
From childhood to youth, Zhang Guimei lived a life of worryfree clothing and food. She had a pretty happy marriage. However, her husband left her forever in February 1995 because
of stomach cancer, which was a very fatal blow to her. Then she
applied for a job transfer and moved from Xizhou, Dali to
Huaping County, where she started her legendary life.
If she hadn't seen with her own eyes the unimaginable poverty
and ignorance in the mountains, and the tragedies that
happened to women, Zhang Guimei might not have had the idea
of building a free girls-only high school.
She said: “In numerous home visits, I saw a lot of girls in the
mountainous areas dropping out of school due to poverty. It was
heart-wrenching. I felt that one educated woman could end the
intergenerational transmission of poverty and change the
destinies of three generations. Therefore, I was determined to
create a high school for girls for free, to light up the dreams of
kids in the poverty-stricken areas. ”
(Part 2)
With the support of the CPC and various social circles, she
established Huaping Children's Home and High School for Girls. Approximately 2000 girls were admitted into college, and 172
more orphans found a home. For most girls in this school, if it
hadn't been for such a free high school and the persuasion of
Zhang Guimei, they might have married and had children early
in their teens, without knowing how to educate and love their
kids. It is precisely because of the particularity of this group
that Zhang Guimei’s management of the high school couldn't
be harsher. There is no so-called quality education. She knows
that these girls have no way back, and studying is their only
chance to change their destiny.
Although Zhang Guimei is now the hero praised by people, in
fact, she is also an ordinary person. Yet years of heavy work and
stress have taken their toll on Zhang Guimei. She su ers from
23 diseases, relying on a lot of medicine every day. She had no
children but said: “The children gave me the honor of being a
teacher, the consolation of being a mother, and the happiness
of being a woman. My life is in my teaching.”

(Two girls enter.)
Girl 1: Look. There's Mulan. She's riding a horse again!
Girl 2: She's so strange. She doesn't like to play with us. Why does

Girl 1: Let’s go. Don't worry about Mulan. She's not like other
girls. Come on.
(The two girls leave. Mulan enters. She is pretending to ght an enemy with a sword.)

Soldier 2: Yes, I'm proud to have him as our leader. Mother: It's been so many years since Mulan left. I miss her so
much. Father: Oh, my dear wife. Our daughter is so brave. I'm sure she is
an excellent soldier. Mother: I know you're right, but I hope they don't discover her
secret.
ACT 3
Narrator: After twelve long years, the war ended. Mulan's army
won the war. The emperor was very happy with General Hua andcalled him to the palace.
(In the palace, the emperor and his courtiers are gathered.)
Emperor: Come forward, General Hua.
(Mulan steps forward and bows to the emperor.)
Emperor: You have fought bravely and served our country well. Mulan: I just did my duty, Emperor. It was my honour to serve
our country. Emperor: You are too humble, General Hua. I want to reward youfor your service. Courtier 1: (to Courtier 2)A reward? The emperor has seldom
done that before. That's a great honour. Courtier 2: True. But General Hua deserves it. Emperor: I'm going to give you a position in the government. I
want you to be my senior advisor. You will live here in the palace
and be paid handsomely.
Courtier 1: (to Courtier 2)Senior advisor!

back to her village.
Mulan enters, still dressed as a soldier, on her way home.
Mulan: (To herself) I was a soldier for twelve years. It's been such along time. But now it's time for a new chapter in my life. I'm going

《涼州詞》
[唐]王翰
葡萄美酒夜光杯,
欲飲琵琶馬上催。
醉臥沙場(chǎng)君莫笑,
古來(lái)征戰(zhàn)幾人回。
<Starting for the Front>
With wine of grapes the cups of jade would glow at night;
Drinking with pipa songs, we are summoned to ght. Don’t laugh if we lay drunken on the battleground!
How many warriors ever came back safe and sound?
<Bidding Farewell>
Out the side of road shelter, grasses are green and wild. Flute wails at night, the setting sun in the western sky.
Friends of mine have gone by, leaving missing and I. A cup of wine with best wishes, waves you long goodbye.
Out the side of road shelter, grasses are green and wild. Tell me when you will come back, come back anytime.
Friends of mine have gone by, leaving missing and I. Short is life full of farewells, may your trip be ne.
