Lighting standard
The European Standard EN 12193 is especially established for sports lighting. It specifies requirements for sports - facility lighting to ensure good visual conditions for athletes, referees, spectators, and for TV and film recordings.
Average level of illuminance
Calculating this average ensures the playing field has proper lighting and maximise visual perception.
Light uniformity
Uniformity refers to the even distribution of light across a surface or area, ensuring minimal variation between bright and dark zones. It is measured by theratio ofminimum to average illuminance (e.g., U1 = minimum/average) and standards like UO (uniformity ratio) or U2 (minimum/maximum), whichvaryby application tobalancevisualcomfort and taskperformance.
Colour rendering index (Ra or CRI)
The Colour Rendering Index (CRl/Ra) measures a light source's ability to accuratelydisplay colors compared tonatural light, scaled 0-100. Higher values (near 100) ensure vivid,natural color representation, while lower scores indicate color distortion.
Glare (GR)
GR value refers to the excessive brightness or strong contrast of light that causes discomfort or reduces visibility. The calculated ratio ranges on a scale from ten for "no glare" to 90 for"intolerable glare".
Upward light ratio (ULR x%)
Often denoted as ULR, is a key parameter in the field of lighting design. A lowupward lightratio means most of the light is directed downwards, suitable for tasks that require focused lighting on the ground. It is an important factor considered in the design of various lighting systems to achieve the desired lighting effect and energy efficiency.
Maintenance facor (MF)
The lighting level of a lighting installation decreases over time. This is due to factors like dirt on luminaires, light source aging,and componentwear.MFis used to adjust the initial lighting calculations to predicttheactual illuminance at a later stage, ensuring the lighting design can maintain therequired illuminationlevel throughout its lifespan and helping toplan proper maintenance.
