Abandoned to the Antarctic winter in early 1909, three wooden crates of

this fine whisky were buried in the ice beneath Shackleton's Hut.

Unearthed a century later by the NZAHT, a single crate was flown to

Canterbury Museum in Christchurch, New Zealand, for conservation in

2010. Heralded as 'a gift from heaven for whisky lovers' this long-lost

malt provided the inspiration and critical insight for out timeless

recreation.

Nose: Caramel, vanilla, and a light, sweet aroma of Dolly Mixtures and

liquorice, with some dried fruit from the Sherry cask influence. There’s a

subtle, soft and well-integrated smokiness too, alongside a grassy,

almost floral aroma of cut hay.

Palate: Get over the shock and there’s dried fruit and more of that cut

hay, with a toffee sweetness. There’s enough oak spice the mimic the

effect of alcohol burn on the tongue, which combined with the char-like

smoke has a pleasant mouth-fulling effect.

Finish: Dry, oaky and a little bitter.

The Glen Grant is a genuine Single Malt Scotch established in 1840.

One-time smugglers, James and his brother John turned to lawful

endeavours. They sought Scotland’s finest location for barley and

highland water. In 1872, when the two brothers died, John’s nephew,

young James Grant, inherited the business. Aged just 25 at the beginning of his tenure, James later became known as The Major.

Major James Grant was one of the first distillers who pioneered the

ground breaking purifiers ensuring only the lightest vapours become

liquid. He also designed our uniquely tall, slender pot stills. Together with

the purifiers, they revolutionised Scotch whisky – and inspired many

famed distilleries. However, none would match Glen Grant’s elegant,

fruity, nutty flavour – and bright, golden colour. He also created our

famous Glen Grant Garden. The gardens had several greenhouses with

exotic flowers such as orchids, and fruits like peaches, grapes and

melons.

THE Glen Grant is the only Speyside distillery to practice the entire

whisky-making craft on one site - from barley to bottle. Through tireless

ingenuity, we capture the best of Mother Nature in every drop.

Kentucky Owl, The Wiseman's Bourbon, was founded in 1879 by Charles

Mortimer Dedman. Charles built the distillery on a large parcel of land on

the banks of the Kentucky River.

Kentucky Owl distillery flourished for over 37 years, until Prohibition, put

an end to the business. Nearly 100 years after Kentucky Owl was

shuttered, Dixon Dedman(5th Generation Owner), the great-great grandson of C.M. Dedman realized a long-held family dream to bring back the

family bourbon.

Akkeshi Distillery is a very young distillery. The founder Keiichi Toita is a

veteran Islay peated whisky fan. He built the distillery in Akkeshi, Hokkaido, which has a climate similar to Islay and is also facing the sea. All

barley are imported from Scotland.

Andrée and Olivia Putman designed this contemporary decanter developed in partnership with Baccarat and its gift box,
